Artist Spotlight: Sadie Pepitone
“It is never too late to learn! I believe every person should have a creative outlet like music to explore their inner artist and use it as a way to relax and destress. Music is an intelligent hobby that delves into a plethora of worldly subjects such as math, literature, history, etc., but it can also transport you to another world/time which is just, magical.”
- Sadie
Currently working working on a music project due out later this year, Sadie Pepitone (based in Somerville NJ) continues to offer online lessons hoping to inspire people of all ages to find their own creative outlet.
I met Sadie exactly a year ago when we were both members of a Music Together training in Princeton, NJ. Music Together is an early education music program for children ages 0-5. It was quite the group of young women and the talent, warmth, and love for teaching music and children was apparent. Sadie and I got to know each other over lunch and prepping for our final exam for the certification. I will never forget her kindness, zest for life and trying something new, as well as her obvious love for sharing music with others!
I am so grateful to have made a good friend in Sadie and to share her Artist Spotlight interview with you all!
So tell me a little about yourself. How did you get started?
I have been told that my singing career began at two years old as I would listen to Disney songs on repeat until I could perform them. At 10 years old, I was drawn to the piano and taught myself how to play it by ear. That is when I started songwriting and picked up the acoustic guitar. Over the years, I have performed in numerous coffee shops, competitions, plays, fundraisers, fairs, sporting events, and bars.
What has been your favorite performance to date?
My favorite performance was singing “Over the Rainbow” at the annual OzFest in Upstate NY where I sang for the “munchkins” from the original cast of The Wizard of Oz.
When did you start taking music seriously?
It was in 2010, after losing my mother to cancer, when I started taking songwriting seriously and recording in studios in 2014. I attended college for Music Education with a concentration in classical voice and have been teaching private music lessons for almost a decade now. In 2019, my dream came true when I released my first EP, “Synchronicity” which is available on all music platforms.
Tell us more about your EP, “Synchronicity”!
My EP, mixed by Doug Gallo of AGL Sounds and mastered by Sarah Register, (Christmas & Chill by Ariana Grande) blurs the lines of musical genres. From the opening track, "Firehouses,” the lyrics depict a romantic storyline and gives us a Vanessa Carlton vibe with flowing piano melodies accompanying clean pop vocals. Transitioning to an angsty rock track, "Give In" is real and raw as it discusses addiction and anxiety. "Truth Is" tells a lot about my life and how I’ve come to terms with certain relationships.
It was obvious from the moment I met you how important performing was to you but it was also apparent how much you enjoyed teaching and sharing music with others. What lessons are you currently offering and are you available for online lessons?
Yes, I offer private one-on-one music lessons online for instruments including voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, and clarinet. Each lesson is tailored-fit to meet the student’s needs and level. I also host a recital each year and an online performance is in the works for 2021. My lessons range from 30 minutes to an hour once a week and is meant to be a time for you to relax, unwind, learn, and have fun. I want you to walk away with tools that you can use on your own to foster your skills and deepen your love for the art form. I also teach music theory and songwriting courses as well as musical theater classes for those who are interested in learning repertoire from Broadway and classic show tunes.
How would you sum up your teaching philosophy?
It is never too late to learn! I believe every person should have a creative outlet like music to explore their inner artist and use it as a way to relax and destress. Music is an intelligent hobby that delves into a plethora of worldly subjects such as math, literature, history, etc., but it can also transport you to another world/time which is just, magical.
I very much appreciate that and wholeheartedly agree with you! What can we expect next from you and how can people contact you for lessons?
