Reflective Rest Over Resolutions ✨

I'm curious…

Did you set New Year goals or resolutions?

If you said yes, did you do so because you felt like it was in alignment for you or because that’s what everyone always does this time of year so you felt like here we go again? Do you now feel anything but motivated to pursue those goals? Have you already given up?

If you said yes again, it’s most likely because you are tuning more into the energy of the season...

Look outside (I write this is as if I assume you too are trudging through the winter season). Do you see nature being productive right now? Do you see flowers blooming all year round? It’s winter. We are meant to rest. We are meant to take advantage of slowing down. Stop guilting yourself. Stop forcing yourself into believing you should be moving mountains as well as being a go-getter right now.

Okay, sure we still need to work but do we need to be going above and beyond to create drastic change in your lives right now? Not if it feels heavy and overwhelming for you. I have been struggling on a daily basis to remind myself that it is OKAY to slow down right now and rest more.

As I reflect on my personal experience and relationship with the winter season, I truly believe that part of the reason I get depressed in the winter is because by nature I am an overachiever and my lack of motivation during this time depresses me. Yanno, along with the cold, shorter days, and lack of vitamin D from the sun. But I also love chilling out and reading and relaxing and doing nothing (once I consciously remind myself that this too is productive). And that I need to rest my brain and my body to actually be able to proactively plan and pursue goals - when it’s the right time to do so.

I think this time of year provides us with the opportunity to take a breather and really tune into our needs - body, mind, & spirit. How can we hold more grace and compassion for ourselves by actually allowing ourselves to slow down? I will reiterate because it's so damn important - it is the perfect time of year to remind ourselves that rest is productive too!

If this is at all resonating with you, I hope you will join me for this month's WWW! Yes, we ARE meeting this month! Last day is better than never! ;)

For this month’s Woo Woo Wednesday virtual workshop, our focus will be on rest, reflection, & renewal. January’s edition will include journaling, discussion, a restorative yoga practice, and a guided meditation. The journaling & discussion will offer you the space to reflect on 2023 and set an intention for either winter or for 2024 based on how you’d like to feel and the energy you would like to foster in your life.

Woo Woo Wednesday virtual workshops offer a safe space within community to practice holistic wellness through exploring expression and creativity, fostering connection with self and others. Curiosity and compassion are the core values of our community. All people and perspectives are welcome. Coming together in community is a beautiful way to spread more positivity in our world. We hope you'll join us!
